Perhaps it is the awe-inspiring view of God’s creation from a 7000-foot peak in the Andean foothills. Perhaps it is the limitless hope revealed in the eyes of a child who was once alone but now knows the love of a family. Or perhaps it is simply the indescribable feeling of being embraced by the unconditional love of one’s fellow Christians. For each person who visits Bolivia, the path may be a little different, but the final destination is the same – a deeper, more personal relationship with God.
Your room is waiting!
Upon your arrival at the Cochabamba airport, you will be greeted by a local staff member and taken to Amistad Mission’s retreat center, La Morada. Here, visitors have an opportunity to witness miracles on a daily basis – children who once had no hope are given a second chance at life, impoverished Quechua natives who never before had access to medical care are relieved of their suffering, unskilled workers are offered the dignity that every human being deserves through vocational training programs, and all are given a chance to know Jesus Christ.
La Morada offers comfortable but simple single and double rooms. Many conveniences are at your disposal, including a common room, TV, telephone and laundry facilities. Water is sterilized, and delicious meals are prepared with sensitive American palates in mind.
If you are planning a trip to Aramasi (a highly recommended adventure!), be sure to bring some cold weather clothing, as the mountains can get quite chilly at night. Accommodations in Aramasi’s hermitages are more spartan but still comfortable. We think you’ll agree that the rustic beauty of this rural area more than compensates for the lack of creature comforts.
You set the pace!
Most guests believe that a visit to La Morada is not complete without planning a day trip to Cochabamba. There, you can experience the local culture, visit the famous Cristo de Concordia, and explore the fascinating offerings at the city’s marketplace. Whether you want to see the sites or devote most of your time to quiet reflection, an itinerary can be arranged to meet your needs. And regardless of your destination, a knowledgeable bilingual guide will accompany you every step of the way.
When considering your itinerary, we recommend that you – or, if you are traveling with a group, your group leader – maintain close communication with our stateside travel coordinators, Kathy Van Wie and Steve Dauphin. Kathy and Steve will provide you with information on the many options available to you – from the Children’s Villa to national parks to archaeological sites – and will remain in close contact with our Bolivian hosts on your behalf.
